Overview
Our client, a mission‑driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a hands‑on Accounting Manager to lead and strengthen its financial infrastructure. The leader will oversee all core accounting functions, including general ledger management, government contract compliance, grant reporting, and financial operations while designing durable systems that support long‑term organizational growth and excellence.
Base Pay Range
$80,000.00 / yr – $100,000.00 / yr
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build, refine, and maintain the organization’s accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate, audit‑ready financial records.
- Oversee all daily accounting functions, including month‑end and year‑end close, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Establish management accounting processes that enhance real‑time decision‑making and contract compliance.
- Manage internal controls, chart of accounts structure, and segregation of duties consistent with nonprofit and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) standards.
Grants & Contract Management
Lead the preparation, review, and submission of invoices and financial reports for city, county, and state‑funded grants.Monitor restricted funding allocations and ensure compliance with multi‑funder requirements.Partner with program teams to develop accurate grant budgets, amendments, projections, and renewals.Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits, funder monitoring visits, and audit schedule preparation.Team Development
Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, supporting skill development, accuracy, and a strong understanding of nonprofit financial practices.Model a patient, empathetic, and supportive leadership style aligned with the organization’s mission‑driven culture.Strategic Finance & Reporting
Provide financial modeling and analytical insights to support executive decision‑making.Prepare dashboards, forecasts, and board‑level reporting that translate financial activity into strategic insights.Collaborate with leadership on cash flow planning, reserves management, and long‑range financial forecasting.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required .Preferred : Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or similar credential.CPA candidates are welcome if their background is in management or cost accounting rather than public accounting.Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience , including recent experience in the nonprofit sector and government‑funded programs.Proven success building or rebuilding accounting infrastructure and systems from the ground up.Proficiency with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and advanced Microsoft Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliation formulas).Strong knowledge of nonprofit and fund accounting principles, including 2 CFR Part 200 .Exceptional accuracy, organization, documentation, and time management skills.Compassionate leadership style aligned with a mission‑driven, client‑focused environment.Benefits
