Lead Campus Safety Officer
We are searching for an experienced Lead Campus Safety Officer at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus. The Lead Campus Safety Officer performs a wide variety of service functions to support the safety and security of the college community and campus property. The Lead Campus Safety Officer patrols assigned areas and responds to radio and / or phone calls for routine and / or emergency assistance in both criminal and non-criminal matters. Deters and prevents unlawful behavior and performs internal and external public safety functions. Reports to work in the event of an emergency. This position reports directly to the Campus Safety Shift Sergeant. The Lead Campus Safety Officer will directly lead Campus Safety Officers during a shift and will be the primary shift lead in the absence of the Sergeant. The Lead Campus Safety Officer will ensure that staff take appropriate breaks and report any issues to the Campus Safety Shift Sergeant.
Core Duties and Responsibilities :
- Patrol assigned areas and perform security checks.
- Maintain security of buildings and college-related property by controlling access.
- Opening and securing buildings in accordance with departmental procedures or as directed.
- Operate and / or monitor electronic door access via closed-circuit systems and other security-related devices.
- Respond to phone and / or radio calls for routine and emergency assistance in both criminal and non-criminal situations.
- Assess circumstances and conditions at the scene of an incident and determine the appropriate response.
- Make urgent calls to local law enforcement agencies as needed.
- Assess the severity of medical emergencies, summon medical assistance as required (e.g., paramedics, fire department), and may transport non-life-threatening sick and injured patients.
- Lead Campus Safety Officers on duty. Ensure that they take appropriate and timely breaks.
- Must report to the Campus Safety Shift Sergeant all officer safety issues as well as any violations of policies or procedures committed by a Campus Safety Officer.
- Must document any violations of policies or procedures regarding a Campus Safety Officer.
- Lead and command on a perimeter, unless outranked at the incident, and assist with crowd control in areas of crimes, emergencies, and special events.
- Must report critical incidents to the Campus Safety Shift Sergeant.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and ensure that every incident is properly documented per the Campus Crime Awareness and Security Act of 1990, also known as the Clery Act.
- Ensure that records are accurate. Ensure that daily activities such as duty times, incidents, actions taken, observations made, and other relevant information is documented and reported appropriately to command staff.
- Escort students, staff, faculty, and / or visitors between college buildings and their vehicles.
- Oversee parking control and vehicle / pedestrian security. Direct traffic and give directions. Issue citations as needed.
- Act as the liaison for VIP guest(s) and their special parking requests / needs.
- Oversee "Long Term Parking" requests and respond accordingly.
- Oversee planning and conducting crime prevention awareness programs and other public information campaigns on such topics as personal safety, theft, and emergency response.
- Enforce OSHA and CAL-OSHA regulations and college policies relating to safety, health, and fire prevention. Reports hazardous, unsafe or irregular conditions, as appropriate.
- Carry non-lethal weapons (e.g., baton, aerosol projector, handcuffs).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Filling as a supervisor in absence of the Campus Safety Lieutenant or Sergeant when needed.
Required Qualifications :
Knowledge of CCTV cameras and access card software is highly desired.Knowledge of computers, databases, and MS Office programs is strongly desired.Basic math skills required for calculating property loss for incident reports.Valid Security Guard permit issued by the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) is required prior to start date.Possession of a current PC 832 Certification / SB 1626 or must be willing to acquire certification within 90 days of employment.Must successfully complete an 8-hour baton / pepper spray class prior to carrying such defense weapons.Valid CPR / First Aid and AED certification required throughout the duration of employment.Valid California Driver's License is required throughout the duration of employment.Must have a reliable motor vehicle.Preferred Skills and Experience :
Some college course work or technical training is preferred.At least three years of experience as a Campus Safety Officer.FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Compensation Type : Hourly Wage
Salary Range : 21.77 - 25.77
