Job Summary And Qualifications
The Pre-Admission Nurse position is fulltime, Monday – Friday, 0800-1630. No weekends or nights and off all legal holidays. Very little overtime if at all.
This nursing position is for experienced nurses in surgical services, including pre-admission testing, pre-op, post-op, PACU surgical services or Med / Surg Units but may consider nurses having other direct patient care related positions. Meditech experience is a plus!
Autonomy, self-direction and attention to detail are a must, as well as the ability to be a team player and take direction. Has a basic understanding or at least is willing to learn about the surgeries taking place in order to understand the nursing assessment and evaluation needed for each patient.
This role centers around using critical thinking combined with solid nursing skills rotating through three areas of the Pre-Admission Department to prepare a patient for surgery and they include :
Face-to-face with patients for their pre-surgery appointment, including but not limited to taking height and weight, vital signs (manual BP), drawing labs, performing EKG and nasal swabs. Reviewing medical history, medications, allergies and other areas of the health interview and charting in Meditech. Communicating with the doctor’s offices to address any concerns.
Calling patients who do not require a face-to-face, reviewing medical history, updating medications, allergies and other areas of the health interview. Charting in Meditech and entering information onto the Nurse Report Sheet.
Creating and reviewing Charts for the day of surgery. Calling doctor’s offices for missing documentation including H&Ps, orders, clearances and testing completed outside of this facility. Ensuring all documents are stamped and tagged for signature, orders entered into Meditech and faxing medications to pharmacy.
Productivity for appointments and calls are counted daily and the nurse must be able to manage their own time during the day in order to meet the productivity expectations.
