Patient Transporter
The Transporter is expected to transport patients, non-patient materials, and visitors within the hospital.
Essential Job Functions
- Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.
- Introduce self to patient and explain transport plan and destination.
- Provide for appropriate mode of transportation considering the patient's condition, comfort, and any safety factors.
- Transfer patient to / from cart, wheelchair, or other transport vehicle according to procedure and is knowledgeable and effectively operates transport equipment.
- Identify patient prior to transport.
- Record patient transport through the use of capacity management on the patient care unit and in the ancillary department.
- Determine patient code status prior to transport.
- Use appropriate isolation techniques and comply with universal precautions.
- Store transport equipment appropriately throughout the day.
- Transport notification occurs predominantly by preset department patient schedules (i.e. physical therapy, radiology, etc.) or universally for inpatient transport via phone, pager.
- Assists in coordinating patient trips.
- Serve as greeter for visitors, patients and employees entering Excela Health.
- Perform other tasks as assigned / requested.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, or Higher Level of Education.Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent, decision-making and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working with patients preferred but not required.License, Certification & Clearances
Act 33 with renewal.Act 34 with renewal.Act 73 FBI clearance with renewal.Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED).Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.LEAN
