About the Opportunity

BuzzClan is seeking a qualified and experienced Z TEMP - Clinical Pharmacist to join our team in partnership with CalOptima Health. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to make an impact in managed care pharmacy and play a key role in ensuring optimal medication use and member care.

As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will be part of a mission-driven team committed to improving health outcomes for members by applying clinical expertise, collaborating with healthcare providers, and supporting quality initiatives like HEDIS, MTM, and DUR / DUE programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Pharmacy Management (95%)

  • Support department goals with a strong focus on service quality, member dignity, and consistency.
  • Analyze claims and utilization data to track trends and identify opportunities for utilization management.
  • Develop and update drug utilization criteria and participate in drug policy development.
  • Engage in clinical quality improvement programs, including Stars, HEDIS, MTM, and polypharmacy initiatives.
  • Review medication profiles and make evidence-based recommendations to providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care teams and serve as a plan representative in state fair hearings.
  • Handle complaints, grievances, and appeals related to medication therapy.
  • Conduct reviews of drug prior authorizations and appeals according to regulatory and clinical guidelines.
  • Prepare drug monographs and utilization reports for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committee.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on disease management and outcomes-based projects.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with CMS, DHCS, DMHC, and NCQA standards.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Perform other assigned projects or responsibilities as needed.

    • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education : Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential job functions.
  • License : Valid, unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist license.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Residency in pharmacy practice or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Experience with CMS, DHCS, DMHC, or NCQA audits.
  • Multilingual (English + Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Russian, Spanish, or Vietnamese).

    • Skills & Competencies

  • Strong communication, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external healthcare providers.

    • Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, type, and communicate clearly for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting (10–25 pounds) and ability to navigate between office and clinical environments.
  • Visual, auditory, and manual dexterity required.

    • Work Environment

  • Office-based role : Indoor, moderate noise levels, regular business hours with flexibility for some evening / weekend work.
  • May require travel to provider sites, community events, or hearings.
  • PACE or community-based assignments may involve clinical settings and outdoor environments.
