The work you will do : Inspector II - District Four / Director of Operations / District Maintenance / Ft Lauderdale Maintenance Security. This position independently inspects and monitors roadway work to ensure compliance with FDOT and safety standards. Verifies materials, enforces traffic control guidelines, and documents work for contractor payments. Conducts field surveys, supports maintenance planning, and represents the Department in project meetings and permit matters.

Annual salary range : $42,791.82 - $55,377.65. A competitive area differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
Your specific responsibilities include performing independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verifying that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, and rules. Performing approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges, and / or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements. Interpreting governing documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation / placement, and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviewing work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and taking corrective measures when deficiencies are noted. Preparing records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner. Conducting surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Gathering data and performing preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Attending pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attending meetings with contractors / utility owners / permits throughout life of projects as assigned. Acting as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issuing work documents on contracts as directed.
The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities : Knowledge of performing field inspections of worksites for compliance to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roadway standards. Entering and retrieving information from a computer database. Skills in communicating technical information verbally and in writing. Understanding and interpreting plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals. Dealing with internal and external customers in a courteous manner. Personal computer (PC) and understanding of databases. Organizing records and handling multiple tasks and interruptions. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. Work effectively as a team member. Follow oral and written instructions. Use word processor software. Lift 50 pounds and stoop, climb, squat, push, crawl, and bend.
Other job-related requirements include completing the following self-study courses within 11 months of appointment : Construction Math and Plans Reading. Obtaining the Advanced Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification and the Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certification (Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Training Program) within one year and maintaining it. While on-duty status, may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position. Valid Class E Driver License is required. May be required to work with or around hazardous materials, work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and Class E Driver's License. This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following : three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years. Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
