$2,500 Signing Bonus
Performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive and related equipment, under limited supervision. Analyzes and diagnoses gas and fuel operated vehicles for maintenance defects. Performs Virginia state and emission inspections of vehicles and equipment. Performs road tests on new and repaired vehicles. Operates specialized equipment common to the automotive repair industry and machine shops. Performs related work as required.
Day Shifts : 5 : 30 a.m. to 2 : 00 p.m., 10 : 00 a.m. to 6 : 30 p.m., or 11 : 00 a.m. to 7 : 30 p.m.
Evening Shifts : 2 : 00 p.m. to 10 : 30 p.m.
Locations : Alban, Jermantown, Newington or West Ox depending on the needs of the department.
Note : This job announcement may be used to fill multiple full-time Fleet Technician positions. This is an entry-level position, and the salary offer will not exceed the mid-point (or $67,785.95) of the advertised salary range.
Position may be underfilled as a Fleet Technician Aide (S15); the Underfill Requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following : (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") completion of the tenth grade plus two years of experience in problem diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy and / or specialized automotive equipment. Related automotive technical education or trade training above high school may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a set of hand tools commonly used in the automotive industry, such as wrenches, pliers, sockets, and ratchets. Personal tools are required upon appointment.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :
UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS :
This position may be underfilled as a Fleet Technician Aide;(Grade S15; $45,255.39 - $75,424.96). The employment standards for the Fleet Technician Aide are : Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following : completion of the tenth grade with coursework in vehicle repair and maintenance. Possession of a set of basic hand tools commonly used in the automotive industry, such as wrenches, pliers, and sockets and ratchets. Personal tools are required upon appointment. Applicants hired at the Fleet Technician Aide will be non-competitively promoted to the Fleet Technician I level upon successful completion of an underfill agreement.
Note : Underfill candidates must be able to meet the minimum qualifications of the Fleet Technician I within one year of the job announcement's closing date.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, commercial driver licensing screening and pre-employment physical to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Possess current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must be able to : lift 50 lbs. on an average of once daily. Stoop, bend, twist, and reach many times daily; use ladders extensively. Use creeper (or get on hands and knees) several times daily. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
