Job Details
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team in the agriculture sector. This role will focus on commodity accounting and financial reporting for a publicly traded company. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in GAAP, SEC reporting, inventory accounting, and commodity hedging, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities :
Oversee and manage commodity accounting processes, including valuation, tracking, and reporting of agricultural inventories and derivatives.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations.
Reconcile and report on commodity hedging activities, ensuring proper accounting treatment and risk management.
Support the monthly and quarterly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Assist in the preparation of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, and other disclosures) and collaborate with external auditors.
Monitor and ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal policies related to financial reporting and risk management.
Conduct cost and inventory accounting for agricultural commodities, including analysis of production costs, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
Partner with operations, treasury, and risk management teams to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy.
Analyze commodity price fluctuations and their impact on financial statements, ensuring alignment with company hedging strategies.
Support ERP system enhancements and automation initiatives related to commodity accounting and financial reporting.
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of experience in commodity accounting, inventory accounting, or financial reporting within the agriculture, commodities, or manufacturing sectors.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
Experience with derivatives and commodity hedging accounting.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and financial reporting tools.
Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze complex financial data.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate financial insights effectively.
Preferred Experience :
Experience in a publicly traded company.
Knowledge of commodity risk management and regulatory reporting.
Familiarity with agriculture industry financial practices and commodity price risk.
