Job Title : Assistant Manager, Powell Laboratory

Scope of Position
The Powell Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission / discharge criteria. The Powell laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and coagulation analyzers. The lab provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday with hours varying according to workflow and holidays.
Position Summary
The Assistant Manager (AM) is responsible for the daily operations of the Powell laboratory and provides leadership within the area. This position works in concert with the manager to direct projects and execute validation studies for all core laboratories (James Stat, JWC, SSCBC, MMT). Duties include oversite of laboratory operations, CAP / CLIA compliance, QA, safety, timekeeping, scheduling, testing strategies, test platform validations, information technology and automation as well as platform performance and problem resolution. The AM assists with buckeye performance evaluations, corrective action, budgeting, purchasing, and new equipment evaluation. Administrative duties also include oversight and training of technical and shift lead personnel, systemwide standardization of processes (as applicable) and assistance with the ongoing work and development performed by Leads. The AM works under the direction of the operations director, the associate operations director, and lab manager as well as the clinical laboratory medical director and division directors.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire : Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Biological Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience. ASCP MT / MLS or MLT certification. 3 years of experience in clinical laboratory testing. Two years must be in the specialty. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and supervisory experience preferred.
Ongoing : Maintains certification status, meets mandatory education, and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
