Assistant Project Manager / Senior Project Engineer

Location : Northern California

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a retained client - a well-established and rapidly growing water and wastewater contractor based in Northern California . This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated construction professional to join a company with a strong pipeline of work and a clear path for rapid career progression .

The successful candidate will support the delivery of municipal and industrial water / wastewater projects ranging from $1M to $30M , including treatment plants , pump stations , and pipeline installations .

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in overseeing all phases of construction from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Support scheduling, budgeting, and cost tracking across multiple active projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Participate in progress meetings and assist with reporting and forecasting.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in heavy civil or water / wastewater construction .
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management , Civil Engineering , or related field (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure , treatment processes , and underground utilities .
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
