Custodial Supervisor
The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating custodial operations to ensure that College facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and presentable condition. This is a working supervisor position that provides leadership and oversight to custodial crew leads and staff across multiple shifts, ensuring consistent service delivery and compliance with institutional standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Working collaboratively with Facilities Operations and other campus departments, the Custodial Supervisor supports the College's mission by fostering a safe, efficient, and customer-focused custodial program that enhances the learning and working environment for students, employees, and visitors. This position will also oversee bus scheduling and operations, serving as the primary point of contact for all bus-related matters.
Essential Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the work of custodial crew leads and staff across multiple shifts to ensure efficient, high-quality operations and adequate coverage.
- Develop and implement custodial work schedules and plans, deep-cleaning schedules, and project timelines.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of custodial and crew lead employees; provide coaching and feedback and recommend disciplinary actions, promotions, or terminations as appropriate.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with departmental standards; implements preventive measures and corrective actions as needed.
- Establish, communicate, and enforce custodial procedures, safety policies, and quality control measures in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Identify and recommend improvements to custodial methods, products, and equipment to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Coordinate custodial activities with other departments to support special projects and campus operations.
- Manage and monitor budgets for labor, supplies, and equipment; approves orders, monitors usage, and ensures cost-effective operations.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports that are needed related to staffing, timekeeping, inventory, safety, and facility conditions.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director, mechanic, and bus drivers to coordinate schedules, ensure safe and efficient transportation, and support smooth daily operations.
- Participate in departmental and facility planning meetings to support operational goals.
- Carry and utilize a two-way radio and College-provided cell phone during work hours.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 3 years custodial or building and facilities maintenance experienceAt least 1 year supervisory or lead experienceDemonstrated knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemical use and safety (including OSHA and MSDS requirements)Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of multiple custodial teams and shiftsExperience maintaining records, preparing reports, and monitoring supplies and equipment inventoriesStrong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff and campus communityAbility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed to support campus operations and eventsPreferred Qualifications :
Associate's Degree or completion of certificate coursework from an accredited institution in facilities management, business administration, or a related field3 or more years of supervisory responsibility over multiple crews or shiftsExperience working in a community college, K12, university, or other public sector / institutional environmentExperience using custodial management systems, work order software, or digital scheduling toolsLicenses / Certificates :
Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver's license within 30 days of hire. Must maintain a clean driving record to be insurable under the College's insurance plan.
Work Environment
The normal work environment for this position is divided between a typical office setting requiring normal office precautions, and time spent performing functions in and around College facilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, wet / slick floors and exposure to body fluids. The employee occasionally works at heights and works with and around machinery with moving parts. The use of cleaning equipment will be required (i.e. brooms, vacuums, etc.), along with use of other tools to perform the duties of the job (i.e. ladders). The majority of the time will be spent indoors in a climate controlled environment, but occasionally various weather conditions will be encountered while traveling between buildings. The noise level in the work environment is typically at a normal level, but occasionally moderate to high levels of noise will be encountered during certain activities (i.e. vacuuming, etc.). Weekend / evening work may be required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is normally required to stand and / or walk for long periods of time, climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; use hands and arms, sit and talk; or hear. The position requires the ability to carry supplies, move furniture and equipment, and work on ladders. Frequent lifting / moving of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting / moving in excess of 50 pounds with or without assistance may be expected. Work duties require a high level of physical exertion for the duration of the work shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
