About the Position

The Program Assistant observes, records, and responds as needed to the comings and goings of guests / residents / participants and staff, and maintains a safe and comfortable environment. They serve as a member of the program services team and support trauma?informed assistance. This is a unionized position represented by Local?8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).

About the Program

Compass Day Services includes the Client Services Office, the Hygiene Center, and the Day Services Center. The Day Center offers comfort and stability, and the Hygiene Center provides restroom and shower access. The Client Services Office offers free mail services.

Job Details

  • Location : Pioneer Square Neighborhood (Seattle, WA)
  • Reports to : Program Coordinator
  • Schedule : MondayFriday 8 : 30?am4 : 30?pm & 3rd Saturday 8?am12?pm; weekly staff meeting Thursday 1?pm
  • Meal Period : Paid (30?min)
  • Salary : $24.50 per hour (Level?1); Level?2 after a consecutive year of employment (2.5?% increase)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma?informed monitoring of activity to ensure safety, security, and comfort of guests / residents / participants and staff.
  • Mediate conflicts and provide de?escalation and crisis intervention; model problem?solving and refer to appropriate services as needed.
  • Assist in program activities including meal services, laundry access / instruction, group activities, and similar tasks.
  • Engage guests / residents / participants to assess needs and provide immediate information and referrals.
  • Respond to issues appropriately or as directed by program management and / or property management.
  • Report needs to management and ensure supplies / equipment are stocked.
  • Monitor security cameras and conduct periodic security rounds.
  • Record all actions, incidents, rule enforcement, and report unusual or sensitive matters to the Program Coordinator and / or Manager.
  • Control after?hours front door access, enforce rules and restrictions, and log guest / resident / participant entries.
  • Follow safety and emergency procedures and perform light janitorial duties as assigned.

    • Education and Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in a social / human service setting (preferred).
  • Awareness and / or training around belonging, compassion, and meeting people where they are (preferred).
  • Familiarity with housing instability, mental health, substance use, sexual assault, and / or domestic violence (preferred).
  • Experience working in an environment where language may be a barrier (preferred).
  • Current Washington State Food Handlers Permit (preferred; sponsorship available).
  • Passion for knowledge and drive for continuing professional development; degree in human / social services or related field is a complement.

    • Physical Demands

  • Regular speaking and listening.
  • Standing, walking, using hands to hold, lift up to 20?lb, and frequent working in a social services environment.
  • Mental efforts such as attention to detail, interacting with others, critical thinking, and document creation.
  • Accommodations for disabilities are available through HR.

    • Work Environment

  • Normal noise level; diverse client / guest / resident community; potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and OPIM.
  • No remote work; onsite only.
  • Monitoring with camera surveillance; cameras are in public areas only.

    • Additional Information

    Compensation range : $24.50 per hour. Union representation by Local?8 (OPEIU). Eligibility for federal / state EEO and disability accommodations supported.
