POSITION SUMMARY :
The Histology Technician II will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. This may include logging, batching, and cutting, mounting and staining procedures. Tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the standards required. Upon receiving written or verbal orders from physicians or their designees, the Histology Technician will coordinate daily workflow of tasks and activities in the surgical pathology area with regard to routine procedures, special procedures, and the surgery schedule.
POSITION EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS :
- Current certification as a Histology Technician ,HT or Histotechnologists, HLT credentialed by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years current experience as a Histology Technician 1 or
- Graduate from an associate's or bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences / Technology
- Histology certification preferred but not required
- Experience working in a HIGH Volume Histology laboratory preferred
- Experience working within a team environment made up of diverse individuals
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Performs more advanced and specialized histology techniquesPrepares tissue specimens with chemicals, embeds, cuts, stains and mounts tissue sections for microscopic review by the pathologistPerforms special stains both manually and automated to include routine and IHC procedures.Performs maintenance of instrumentation and trouble shoots when tests do not workPrepares solutions and reagents in accordance with standard proceduresDemonstrate professional conduct through interpersonal skills with patients, laboratory personnel, other health care professionals, and the public.Maintains inventory of reagents and other suppliesAdheres to internal controls established for departmentInsures compliance with federal and state regulationsUse principles of current information systems.Assists in organizing the assigned workloadParticipate in continuing education for growth and maintenance of professional competence.Maintains adequate inventoryLINES OF RESPONSIBILITY :
