Automation Engineer - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Location : Irvine, California

Terms : Full-Time, Onsite | Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM

Pay : Competitive (Based on Experience) | Opportunity for Overtime

Our client, a leading innovator in pharmaceutical manufacturing, is seeking a hands-on and detail-driven Automation Engineer to support advanced drug production in a GMP-regulated environment. This is a high-impact role focused on designing, developing, and maintaining control systems critical to product quality, safety, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and maintain PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA-based automation systems.
  • Support the integration of new technologies and products into existing manufacturing lines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Develop and update system specifications, SOPs, and validation documentation (IQ / OQ / PQ).
  • Lead investigations into control system failures and support corrective actions.
  • Implement automation strategies aligned with 21 CFR Part 11 and GMP standards.
  • Support utilities, lyophilizers, CIP / SIP systems, and automated inspection equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and change control records

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or Biotech Engineering preferred.
  • 4+ years of automation engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Rockwell Automation platforms, including FactoryTalk and ControlLogix.
  • Solid understanding of batch processing principles (S88 / S95) and validation protocols.
  • Experience supporting 24 / 7 manufacturing operations is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team setting.
