TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified Med / Surg RN in Weirton, West Virginia, 26062!

$2,218 per week

About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : Nursing

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 12-Hour Nights

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : Minimum 1 year of experience required

License : Current RN License

Certifications : BLS certification required

Must-Have : Must have 1 year of experience; First-time travelers are accepted

Description : Unit has 48 beds.

Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 5-7 on days and 1 : 6-8 on nights.

Required certifications include BLS and an RN License.

Nurses can take a PCT class to become PCT or can have CNA certification.

Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls or weakness.

Nurses are required to titrate certain drips, with exceptions; cardiac drip titration is not required.

Common titratable and set-rate drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix.

There are charge nurses on each shift; charge nurses on day shift take patient assignments.

On night shifts with 2 scheduled charge nurses, if only 1 is present, they do not take an assignment.

Patient care techs are present on the unit with an average ratio of 1 : 10-12.

Job duties include monitoring vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKG application, patient bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning and positioning.

Respiratory therapists are responsible for administering breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and managing respiratory equipment; nurses primarily monitor these devices.

There is a monitor tech on a different level who reads and monitors telemetry for all patients; nurses are not expected to interpret telemetry strips.

Shifts for RNs are from 7 AM to 7 PM; self-scheduling is not allowed.

The schedule is created by management, who accommodates requests for time off.

Nurses are expected to be flexible to help cover gaps in the schedule.

Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.

Holiday requirements may involve a rotation for RNs; PCTs do not have scheduled holidays.

There is no call or standby requirement.

Floating to other medical surgical or telemetry units may occur as needed.

Dress code requires navy blue scrubs for nurses and ceil blue for PCTs.

Orientation includes one day with the educator and one day with a preceptor.

The charting system used is Cerner Corporation - Soarian.

A BSN is not required for this position.
