The Department of Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education houses a variety of outstanding and nationally accredited graduate degree programs, with each culminating in a Doctoral degree, or master’s degree, or an advanced certificate, and most leading to New York State Certification. Our faculty are committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching and are recognized for their work with Bronx and urban schools, districts, nonprofits, and other community organizations, and strive to provide transformational learning experiences for our graduate students. They are experienced in meeting the needs of adult learners and are dedicated to mentoring, motivating, and supporting our graduate students through consistent advisement, engaging instruction, continuous program improvement, and career placement. The Department of Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education (CLLSE) invites applicants for a Doctoral Lecturer position in Counselor Education : School Counseling to teach in our CACREP-Accredited, hybrid M.S. Ed. program. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, advocacy, and leadership to engage and inspire our economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse Bronx and surrounding community candidates, colleagues, and K–20 schools. Experience in working with diverse populations across intersectional identities is expected, along with a strong commitment to equity and social justice awareness, knowledge, and skills in Counselor Education. Candidates must also have outstanding collaboration skills to engage with program faculty colleagues, alumni, site supervisors, K–20 school and community partners, our advisory council, and candidates in promoting and supporting exemplary program assessment and development. Strong interpersonal skills with students, as well as excellent administrative and organizational abilities, are essential. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chairperson of CLLSE and is expected to teach primarily graduate courses, with undergraduate courses assigned as needed by the Department Chairperson. This is not a remote position. While some online teaching or remote administrative work may be allowed, the role requires consistent on-campus engagement. Faculty are expected to maintain a regular on campus presence for teaching, office hours, departmental and other activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES + Teach graduate-level courses (on campus and online) within the Counselor Education curriculum. + Share responsibility for : + Program, committee, and department assignments Administrative tasks + Supervisory responsibilities + Program and course development + CACREP compliance + Other duties as assigned + Advise master’s students.
  • Maintain professional identity as a Counselor Educator.
  • Serve on program, departmental, school, college, and university committees. + Maintain a teaching load of 24 credits per 9-month academic year. + Serve the Counselor Education program, the CLLSE department, the School of Education, and the CUNY Lehman College community. + Assist in program and clinical coordination (as needed). Other responsibilities include : + Collaborate across departments and / or schools. + Assist with assessment, accreditation, and program development initiatives. + Seek external funding for research and program improvements. + Assist with seeking articulation agreements and educational partnerships with non-profit, community-based, and other organizations and / or institutions. + Perform service to the college, school, and department through committee membership. + Assist with program hiring, staffing, and mentoring part-time faculty. + Participate actively in student recruitment, application, and admissions processes. Service to the college, university, and community is part of the mission, as is a clear commitment to student engagement, including advisement and mentoring. Participating in professional counseling organizations such as the American Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, American School Counselor Association, National Association for College Admission Counseling, and state, regional, and city branches is also expected.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required Qualifications : + Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in Counselor Education and / or a minimum of one full academic year serving faculty member in a Counselor Education program prior to July 1, 2013. + Core faculty must meet one of the following qualifications : 1. have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program; or 2. have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or, 3. have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE accredited master’s program prior to July 1, 2017; or, 4. have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018. + Demonstrated excellence in graduate-level teaching through in-person and online modalities. + Experience working with diverse student populations. Strong commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion. + Ongoing record of scholarship.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially as a team member. Preferred Requirements : + Ph.D. in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. + Experience in assessment, recruitment, and advisement. + Experience with economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse populations. + Experience with online teaching and digital technology to enhance teaching and learning. + Knowledge and skills with CACREP standards at the master’s and doctoral levels.Lehman College will not be accepting / interviewing individuals who are presently outside of the United States who require an H1B visa.Applicants currently residing in the United States who require H-1B visa sponsorship are eligible to be interviewed.
  • COMPENSATION
  • $89,933 - $97,487 CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
