The Budget Analyst II supports in the planning, development, monitoring, and reporting for the operating budgets for one of the four agencies : Client, the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA), and the San Mateo County Express Lanes Joint Powers Authority (ELJPA).
Examples of Essential Functions & Duties :
- Perform financial data analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities
- ssist with ad-hoc financial projects and provide analytical support to the team
- Work with large data sets and apply advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IFS, conditional formatting, data validation)
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity in financial data and reporting
- Collaborate with internal department staff, cost center managers, and other departments to gather data and support decision-making
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect yourself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Sufficient experience, training and / or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Statistics, Finance or related field.Two (2) years of full-time experience in budgeting, forecasting, or financial analysis.Preferred Qualifications :
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions required).Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience with financial analysis and budgeting processes.ttention to detail and high level of accuracy in data handling.Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI) or Excel template / report building is a plus.Knowledge of public sector financial practices is a plus.ble to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.ble to collaborate and work in a team setting.
