JOB SUMMARY
Under general administrative direction, the Crew Chief supervises staff in the execution of operational duties and specific tasks with respect maintenance and repair of City owned facilities, right-of-way, property, and equipment within the responsibilities for the Public Works or Stormwater Divisions.
Essential Functions :
- Supervises, schedules, trains, evaluates and performs streets and sidewalk maintenance and repairs, Temporary Traffic Control (TTC), renovation construction work, installation or repair of street signs, vegetation control, landscaping / facilities grounds maintenance including mowing grass and trimming trees, pouring concrete, OC Connect / Work Orders, daily tasks and long-term objectives
- Supervises, schedules, trains, evaluates and performs general facility maintenance including but not limited to, irrigation system operation / maintenance; painting, installing signs, pressure washing, performs general construction / renovation work such as light electrical and plumbing. Installs and / or repairs fencing, loads, hauls equipment, materials, and supplies to and from job sites daily tasks and long-term objectives
- Supervises, schedules, evaluates monthly interior and exterior preventative building maintenance inspections to include : restroom maintenance, changing light bulbs / fixtures, trash disposal, a / c filter change and a / c line cleaning to ensure building safety by implementing preventative measures for environmental concerns to include flooding and wind damage, setup and breakdown of City Facilities for meetings and events daily tasks and long-term objectives
- Participates with management in job interviews, candidate selection, placement, promotion, performance reviews, training, safety, and discipline of subordinates
- Maintains vehicle inspection checklist, equipment inventory for assigned staff, tracks and recommends repair, maintenance, and replacement schedules to ensure safety and efficiency
- Reviews and tracks the progress of activities in the field, directs subordinates, advises management and furnishes technical assistance where needed; provides status reports such as frequency and volume of maintenance for documentation on compliance reports and departmental performance metrics
- Inspects streets, sidewalks, and right-of-ways and submits recommendations on the upkeep, upgrade, construction and / or renovation of roadways
- Rotational On-Call shifts
- All employees will have a role in the City's disaster preparation and / or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated in the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
- Performs other duties as assigned
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities :
Performs administrative / office duties as required, including attending and conducting meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, entering computer data and preparing spreadsheets, reviewing and responding to mail, timekeeping, copying and filing documents, etc.Participate and complete training for proper and safe use of departmental equipment, including heavy machineryOperates heavy equipment during employee training and / or in emergency situations when extra manpower is required.Represents department on various committees; attends meetings as required.Attends City Sponsored Events requiring the support of the Public Works Department for traffic control / management as well as crowd and access control.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education and / or Experience :
High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.Five (5) to six (6) years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Possess and maintain TTC Intermediate Certification within six months of employmentPossess and maintain OSHA Chainsaw Safety Certification within six months of employmentPossess and maintain a valid Florida Driver LicenseA comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.Herbicide and Pesticides Control License (applies to Mow Crew Chief)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
