Overview smartdept. inc. is searching for a Marketing Manager for a legal industry client located in Grand Rapids or Detroit. The ideal candidate will come with 10+ years of experience. This is a full-time, onsite direct hire. Compensation for this position is expected to be $80-90K depending on experience level and fit.

About the Role The Marketing Manager will play a key role in developing distinctive and effective marketing communications that reflect the client’s voice, enhance brand visibility, and support strategic business development efforts. The right candidate will create impactful content that highlights thought leadership, promotes services, and engages key audiences. Strong writing, editorial, and creative direction skills are essential, along with project management capabilities and a strategic mindset.

What You’ll Do Develop compelling content such as client case studies, executive profiles, practice and industry group summaries, advertisements, blogs, newsletters, alerts, and other materials that promote individual and firm capabilities.

Create thought leadership and related content to support marketing campaigns, client engagement, and business development efforts.

Recommend new content formats, storytelling approaches, and strategic directions based on client priorities, market trends, and audience insights.

Provide editorial oversight to ensure consistency in quality, tone, and style across all written communications.

Manage editorial standards for clarity, tone, and grammar.

Manage PowerPoint requests and processes, delegating and providing final review before delivery.

Update and manage website content for accuracy, messaging alignment, and SEO optimization.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage and enhance content for web pages, blogs, and digital marketing campaigns.

Report on website analytics, SEO performance, and content engagement metrics; make data-driven recommendations to optimize digital content.

Provide creative direction for event promotions, advertisements, brochures, and other visual marketing materials.

Oversee content-related projects from concept to publication, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

Coordinate internal resources to ensure alignment with broader marketing and business development strategies.

Serve as the primary contact for the client’s external public relations agency, ensuring all messaging aligns with strategy and goals.

Manage and coordinate public relations activities and visibility initiatives.

Manage assigned portions of the marketing and public relations budget, including tracking, forecasting, and reporting.

What You’ll Need Education / Experience :

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, business, or a related field required

10+ years of experience writing for a professional service or legal environment, with a proven track record of success

Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial skills, especially in translating complex concepts into compelling client messages

Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead multiple high-priority projects simultaneously

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Proficiency with SEO and analytic software

Familiarity with design software

Experience managing budgets preferred
