Hybrid Work Options Available; This position may report in to either our Johnson City Headquarter or at our Cedar Park facility depending on home location. Travel between the two locations will periodically be required.
$104,007.20 Minimum Starting Base Pay
KPI Bonuses + Competitive BenefitsQualifications may warrant greater starting base pay within the full pay range. Individual base pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.Position Summary
This position is responsible for the development of engineering standards, guidelines, studies, calculations, and specifications associated with power system protection.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain PEC's system protection philosophyServe as main point of contact for PEC in the area of system protection with internal and external stakeholdersEvaluate, maintain, and test transmission and distribution protection schemes as well as design new installations for future projectsProvide power system protection expertise and closely collaborate with other engineers in the Substation Design, Transmission Development, and Distribution Planning departmentsScope projects and provide cost estimatesOversee contractors and consultants performing system protection workPerform short circuit studies and other complex calculations as required to develop relay settingsReview short circuit ratings for all PEC-owned substation equipment and ensure all ratings are above short circuit fault levelsAssist substation electricians with troubleshooting system protection schemesPerform relay coordination studiesServe as administrator for PEC's relay database softwareEnsure relay documentation and database is up-to-date and properly storedAnalyze all transmission relay events and provide a written report documenting findingsCoordinate relay settings with interconnected utilitiesReview existing relay settings to ensure proper relay coordination margin and recommend setting changes if requiredUtilize communications system including power line carrer and fiber optic technology to develop relay settingsDevelop transmission line relay settings for projectsDevelop temporary relay settings for maintenance projectsRepresent PEC in ERCOT and NERC working groups, meetings, and workshops as appropriateBe the subject matter expert for all applicable NERC PRC requirementsEnsure compliance with all applicable NERC standards, including multiple contingency analysis, relay loadability, and coordination of protection systemsProvide status updates on projects as neededMaintain the security of confidential informationStay abreast of advances in technologyDemonstrate regular and prompt attendancePerforms other related duties as necessary or assigned... ... ... ... Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs such as AutoCAD and ASPEN, entering data or processing informationKnowledge of relay protection schemes and control systems, the calculation of relay settings, and the creation of relay control logicKnowledge of relay communications principles, testing practices, and the maintenance of relay communications network infrastructureKnowledge of NERC PRC standardsProficient in reading and understanding schematics and design drawingsSkilled in analyzing relay event reports and indentifying correct relay operationsSkilled in time managementSkilled in prioritizing and managing changing prioritiesAbility to model systems in short circuit modelsAbility to provide work direction to other team members as requiredAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to listen and understand information verbally and in writingAbility to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems....
