Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift ICU role requiring a current CA RN license and strong critical care background.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the ICU and ICU-CV Recovery units within an acute care hospital setting
  • Night shifts with 12-hour shifts and every other weekend coverage or equivalent
  • 24-bed ICU with capacity for up to 32 beds and patient ratios of 1 : 1 or 1 : 2
  • Patients include those with respiratory failure, sepsis, AMI, ARDS, GI bleed, CABG, TAVR, Impella devices, vascular and neuro surgeries, and CVAs
  • Required to float first to MedSurg / Tele units (4E, 4W, 5E, 5W, & 6E)
  • Cerner EMR is used and experience is required
  • Specialized equipment includes Spacelabs telemetry monitoring (24 / 7 monitor techs), pagers with call light system, and spectra link phones
  • Intensivist on unit from 7am–5pm and on-call after hours
  • Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24 / 7
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Responsible for all aspects of ICU nursing care, including managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, conscious sedation, and participation in multidisciplinary rounds
  • Care for a wide variety of critical patients, including cardiac, neuro, and post-surgical cases
  • Orientation includes 2 shifts in the unit and additional orientation for floating across both East and West towers
  • Charge nurse and free resource nurse provide support; charge seldom takes patients
  • Breaks include one 30-minute break and three 15-minute breaks per shift in accordance with CA law
  • Participation in rapid responses as needed
  • Nurses are responsible for reading and managing their own telemetry strips
  • Neuro ICU experience is a plus due to increased neuro cases
  • No previous direct employment, including PRN, at CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in the last year

    • Requirements

  • Active and current CA RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience required
  • Certifications required : ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Experience with bedside telemetry interpretation necessary
  • Must be willing and able to float to MedSurg / Tele units
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Basic EKG interpretation test required during orientation; advanced testing for critical care RNs
  • Two professional references required : one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one supervisor or peer reference from the last 3 years
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • No first-time travelers will be considered for this position
