Laboratory Supervisor Opportunity At UPMC Presbyterian

Schedule : Monday-Friday, 2nd Shift (3 : 00 PM - 11 : 30 PM) with occasional weekend on-call responsibilities. Responsibilities :
- Investigate and develop new techniques and instrumentation.
- Promote continuous quality improvement activities.
- Interview and select personnel that contribute to an engaged and motivated staff.
- Coach and develop staff and initiate corrective actions via Human Resources as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain up to date policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Complete all projects assigned by the Laboratory Director, or Manager in a timely fashion.
- Develop annual capital and operating budgets and manage all budgets in accordance with established financial guidelines.
- Investigate and correct any budget variances.
- Ensure that time and attendance for subordinates meet departmental expectations.
- Monitor and approve payroll.
- Receive and investigate all complaints concerning the laboratories and its personnel and take action to resolve concerns when necessary.
- Continually evaluate section performance to ensure clinical value and quality of results.
- Participate in hospital committees as appropriate to represent the laboratory.
- Lead lab work groups.
- Remain abreast of developments in the field of management and laboratory science while pursuing a program of self-development.
- Supervise technical staff, ensure adequate training, conduct competency assessments, and complete annual performance appraisals on time.
- Perform duties of a Medical Technologist as required.
- Provide direction to the technical and clerical staff to maintain optimal workflow and productivity.
- Coordinate staffing to assure maximum efficiency and equal distribution of the workload.
- Interact courteously and professionally with all Laboratory customers, clients, and staff.
- Promote positive interdisciplinary relations.
- Establish both short- and long-term operational goals and implement appropriate monitoring and control systems to ensure the laboratories are achieving strategic goals.
Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college / university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science.OR a successfully completed HEW (HHS) proficiency examination, and 4 years Clinical Laboratory experience.Ability to engage, develop, and encourage employees to fulfill their full potential.Ability to supervise personnel in situations of high stress levels and be able to reconcile the objectives of management and the medical staff to produce optimal departmental outcomes.Strong analytical and critical thinking.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred.UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran
