Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Controls Engineer to join our Electric Powertrain Control Systems team. In this role, you will design, develop, simulate, and validate control algorithms and software for electric powertrain products using MATLAB / Simulink and Stateflow . You'll collaborate with global teams to deliver scalable and leverageable control solutions that power next-generation electrified vehicles and machines.
This position plays a direct role in shaping Caterpillar's current and future electrification initiatives across industrial, off-highway, and commercial applications.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop model-based control algorithms for electric powertrain systems using MATLAB / Simulink and Stateflow
- Translate machine-level functional requirements into detailed powertrain control system requirements
- Conduct virtual product development for functional testing, powertrain optimization, and performance verification
- Support lab, machine, and vehicle development for real-world validation
- Utilize tools like CANape, CANalyzer , and ATI Vision for communication, data logging, and debugging
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues in embedded software
- Analyze system performance, investigate root causes, and document findings
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software, hardware, calibration, and system integration teams
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics , or related Engineering discipline5–7 years of relevant industry experience (or 2+ years with Master's)Proficiency in model-based development using MATLAB / Simulink and StateflowExperience with virtual product development and embedded software validationHands-on experience with CAN-based development tools (CANape, CANalyzer, ATI Vision)Strong problem-solving and analytical skillsUnderstanding of embedded software development processes and toolsExperience with electromechanical or powertrain systems (electric, hybrid, transmission)Preferred Skills :
Exposure to transmission or hybrid system controlsExperience with vehicle or machine-level development and testingFamiliarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded C / C++ programmingBasic knowledge of hardware schematics and data sheetsExperience working in agile or iterative development environmentsSoft Skills :
