  • Pay Range : $17-$22
  • Part-Time : 20-25 Hrs
  • 3x's a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) Sandwich, IL

Job Summary :

As a mobile phlebotomist , you will be critical in establishing and delivering our mission to provide high-quality healthcare services to our patients. Your expertise in blood collection, specimen handling, and dedication will contribute to accurate diagnosis and treatment plans, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients. Hours will be flexible and based on coverage need. Blood draws 3x's a week in Sandwich, Illinois for 7 hours. Start the work day in Sandwich as soon as draws are completed you are responsible for dropping off samples at Melrose Park and assisting with draws where help is needed.

Responsibilities :

  • Phlebotomist travels to and from locations requesting collection services.
  • Transport and move required equipment for phlebotomy and / or laboratory testing collections as needed.
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Collect and label specimens accurately, ensuring proper identification and maintaining the integrity of the samples.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Phlebotomist provides exceptional patient care, demonstrating empathy and professionalism while easing any anxieties or concerns they may have.
  • Keep accurate records of specimens collected, ensuring documentation is complete and current.
  • Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing. Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing. Resolves ambiguous and / or unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate personnel. Refers unresolved orders to the originator for further clarification before collecting samples or processing specimens.
  • Phlebotomist makes the appropriate leadership aware of unresolved orders.
  • Collaborate with management to establish and implement workflow optimization.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure inventory control with the necessary supplies.
  • Phlebotomist ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines, such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), CAP, and state certification requirements.
  • Monitor phlebotomy practices to identify areas for improvement.
  • Train and mentor personnel on proper phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and compliance with regulations.
  • Drive to collection sites as assigned.
  • Plan workflow and schedule to maximize productivity (travel times, weather delays, traffic considerations, etc.)
  • Ensure the vehicle is well-maintained, fueled, and ready to go.
  • Cross train to perform EKG studies.

    • Qualifications :

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) or higher.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to navigate traffic and changing travel conditions.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience
  • Phlebotomist certification by ASCP (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to take on diverse challenges and additional duties.

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Mobility and Travel : Mobile phlebotomists need to travel frequently, including driving long distances, walking, and navigating various environments.
  • Standing and Walking : The role requires spending long hours on your feet, performing blood draws, and moving between patients.
  • Fine Motor Skills : Precise hand-eye coordination is crucial for accurate blood draws using needles.
  • Lifting and Carrying : The job involves lifting and carrying equipment, including items up to 30 lbs.
  • Bending and Reaching : Flexibility is needed to bend and reach for veins and supplies.
  • Patient Assistance : Assisting patients in positioning themselves for blood draws may be necessary.
  • Infection Control : Strict adherence to infection control protocols and proper use of PPE are required.
  • Physical Endurance : The role demands physical stamina to handle long hours and multiple locations.
  • Emotional Resilience : Being able to empathize with and manage anxious or fearful patients is essential.
