Environmental / Working Conditions
Works in a well-lit, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as presecribed by the philosophy of the hospital. May work units other than the assigned one with orientation. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is high risk.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position requires close interaction with other ancillary departments in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Job Description
Give practrical nursing care to patients and provides guidance to non-licensed staff.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Current license from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners
Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required. Adequate hand / eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising nursing personnel and in receiving doctor's orders and patients condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients.
Skills and Abilities
Knows vocational nursing standards and practices in acordance with them. Special interest in technical activities for understanding and responding to nursing problems and concepts. All nurses will be required to show current age specific knowledge and clinical competence of the special skills required to give quality care to patients. Special skills include IV therapy, venipuncture, and management of central venous catheters.
