Purpose of Role
Daemen University seeks applications for one (1) full-time, non-tenure-track teaching position in its Social Work and Sociology Department. The successful candidate will teach field education seminars and assist with field-related activities for MSW Program students completing coursework as part of all program option. This is a twelve-month appointment.
About This Opportunity
Joining our Social Work and Sociology team, the Field Education Clinical Assistant Professor will be responsible for the following :
PRACTICUM RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assume administrative responsibilities for practicum experience for MSW students (MSW Generalist Practice; MSW Specialized Practice) including ensuring compliance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Field Education accreditation standards;
- Assist in identification of field placement sites by establishing relationships with community stakeholders and ensuring appropriate opportunities for student practice experience;
- Assist in identification of well-qualified field educators and / or task supervisors for field placement agencies;
- Ensure that information about field placements opportunities is current and complete within electronic placement system;
- Maintain relationships with agency field educators, task supervisors, and other appropriate agency personnel to strengthen partnerships and aid in the design of best practice learning experiences for students;
- Help MSW Distance Education students prepare for field education by supporting field education interview process; development of professional resumes; engagement of field-related development activities including interviewing skills; and assessment of field education readiness;
- Assist in selection of potential field placements based on student / agency needs and interests; and
- Communicate with agency personnel / students to ensure goodness of fit and secure placement confirmation.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILTIES :
Teach field education seminar for MSW Distance Education students (MSW Generalist Practice; MSW Specialized Practice);Hold regularly scheduled office hours to support student professional and academic needs;Conduct field placement visits at mid-year, year-end, and as needed;Monitor student performance in field placement on an on-going basis - observing student development of CSWE-identified competencies through field education seminar; learning contracts, site visits; one-on-one engagements; and field education assessments;Troubleshoot problem situations within the field education setting for students, field educators, task supervisors, and agencies;Provide immediate notification to Program Administrators regarding any field placement related issues; andReview quality of field educators, task supervisors, and field placement agencies to determine their appropriateness of on-going student engagement.SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Perform committee work within Social Work & Sociology Department and Daemen University including re-affirmation of accreditation activities;Assist in marketing, communications, and student recruitment activities for Social Work & Sociology Department and Daemen University;Attend meetings called by Daemen University President, Provost, Dean, Department Chair, and Program Directors; andPerform other duties as requested and / or required in accordance with the Daemen University Faculty Handbook.Required Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited college or universityLicensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW; preferred)Minimum : Two-years post-MSW experienceMinimum : Three years-experience in field education as instructor and / or task supervisorMinimum : Five years-experience with supervisory and / or administrative roles or functionsOTHER QUALIFICATIONS :
