Job Summary :

The Correctional Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality nursing care to inmates or detainees within a correctional facility. The RN delivers patient-centered care, promotes wellness, manages chronic and acute conditions, and ensures a safe and secure healthcare environment in collaboration with custody and medical staff.

Key Responsibilities :

Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver direct patient care in accordance with facility protocols.

Administer medications, treatments, and vaccinations as prescribed.

Manage both acute and chronic medical conditions common in correctional populations.

Respond to medical emergencies and provide triage and first aid when necessary.

Assist with intake screenings, physical assessments, and mental health evaluations for new inmates.

Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals to ensure continuity of care.

Document all patient interactions and treatments accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).

Maintain infection control standards and ensure proper disposal of biohazardous materials.

Promote health education, disease prevention, and adherence to treatment plans.

Adhere to facility safety and security procedures at all times.

Requirements :

Experience : Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience; correctional or emergency / acute care experience preferred.

Licensure : Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of assignment (or compact license).

Certifications :

BLS – Basic Life Support (Required)

ACLS (Preferred)

Skills Required :

Strong assessment and triage skills

Ability to work independently in a secure environment

Excellent communication and crisis management skills
