This is a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing Instructional Assistant Professor / Lecturer track faculty position that will be 100% teaching housed in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida. A successful candidate with a Ph.D. degree would be eligible to use the 'Instructional Assistant Professor' working title.

We are seeking an individual with expertise in family and community development, community engagement, and family or community-based prevention / intervention that can equip students with the core competencies established by the department. Duties will include teaching courses during the fall, spring and summer semesters, as well as providing undergraduate academic advising and maintaining office hours. Courses may be delivered online or in person based on departmental needs. Additional duties include developing high-quality course materials for both in-person and online delivery, applying best practices in teaching across modalities, and supporting the success of all students. In addition, the faculty member may contribute by offering training and instructional support to colleagues. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the department and IFAS.

The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate and / or graduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, supervising undergraduate and graduate research and creative work, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

Background Information :

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Florida Sea Grant program, and encompasses 16 on-campus academic departments and schools, 12 Research and Educational Centers (REC) located throughout the state, 6 Research sites / demonstration units administered by RECs or academic departments, and Florida Cooperative Extension Service offices in all 67 counties (counties operate and maintain). The School of Natural Resources and Environment is an interdisciplinary unit housed in IFAS and managed by several colleges on campus. UF / IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1,400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS, one of the nation's largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans : the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF / IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

The Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences has 28 faculty members located on the Gainesville campus. The interdisciplinary FYCS academic program has an undergraduate major in FYCS, a master's program in FYCS (both on campus and online), and a Ph.D. in Youth Development and Family Science (YDFS). The department has approximately 180 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students enrolled in its academic programs. The unit's sponsored research and Extension activities have generated more than $13 million over the course of the past year. The Department's mission is to enhance lifelong learning and the personal, social, economic, and environmental well-being of a variety of individuals, families, and communities through state-of-the-art Extension, research, and teaching programs. The department encompasses programs in youth development; human development; family science; consumer economics and resource management; community development and sustainability; and human nutrition, food safety, and health. The department engages in collaborative working relationships with Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and other public and private universities in the state.

Required Qualifications :

A Master's (M.S.) degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in family, youth and community sciences, human development and family science, applied psychology, social work, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal abilities, and experience teaching in both in-person and online settings. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to UF core values.

Preferred :

A Ph.D. degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in family, youth and community sciences, human development and family science, applied psychology, social work, or a closely related discipline is preferred (required for use of the 'Instructional Assistant Professor' working title). Online course development experience is preferred.
