Job Summary : Provides patient care in the office setting. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and / or physician. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and office policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

What the role entails :

  • Rooming patients for providers.
  • Taking HPI
  • Taking Patient Vitals
  • Administering Injections
  • Fielding patient calls in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, and other procedures as indicated by physician order.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary, to include : sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab / x-ray reports, discharge summaries, referral information, etc
  • Retrieves lab, pathology and diagnostic testing, and operative reports and data from computer systems
  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Practitioner, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required.
  • Ability to assist medical staff with routine examinations and patient treatments
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age
  • Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  • Set up and prepare exam room for patient visits and procedures to ensure cleanliness
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers, Practitioners and Office Manager.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist Practitioners with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a Practitioner.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
  • Maintains infection control standards for exam / procedure rooms; cleans, disinfects changes linen, etc.
  • Maintains office instruments; knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
  • Maintains established office policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintains injections logs and checks medications for expiration dates.
  • Fill out lab requisitions and provides appropriate and accurate information for billing.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner, directs calls appropriately; refers patient problems to practitioner; schedules patient appointments.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies.
  • Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members of the office.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Performs preventative maintenance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Response to the patient is appropriate in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the medical assistant’s scope of practice.

Requirements :

Professional Requirements :

  • Experience in Medical Field Required
  • Medical Terminology
  • Experience taking vitals and documenting HPI
  • Experience in administering injections to patients
  • Exceptional customer service

  • Must be dedicated, willing to learn, and malleable
  • Ability to work well as a team and independently
  • Medical office : 2 years (Required)
  • Vital signs : 2 years (Required)
  • Adheres to dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirement.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized time system correctly.
  • Attends annual review and in-services as scheduled.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends staff meetings and reads staff meeting minutes.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Participates in the department’s quality improvement CQI activities, attends committee and management meetings, as appropriate.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the hospital.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with practitioners, departments and staff.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety and infection control.
  • Regulatory Requirements :

  • Current CPR certification.
