Carpenter
Under the direction of the Supervising Carpenter, the incumbent will perform journey-level work in the carpentry trade. The incumbent's duties will include but are not limited to :
- Perform a variety of duties in new construction, restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and repair of park and historic site facilities and structures using the tools of the carpentry trade in a skilled manner.
- Fabricate, construct, repair, replace, and perform preventative maintenance on regional facilities and other structures.
- Adhere to professional codes and regulations common to the carpentry trade.
- Lay out work following blueprints, specifications, or instructions, and diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects; and order supplies as needed.
- Act independently with a minimum of direct supervision and be responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects.
- Train employees and assign, supervise, review, and evaluate their work and assist in other areas of park operations.
Minimum Qualifications :
Four years of full-time experience in carpentry work under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Carpenter) traineeship or a two-year carpenter training, apprenticeship, OR equivalent program such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint / schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.Additional Comments :
The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) with the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($2,000). Note : The travel percentage indicated is within Taconic Region.
Operational Needs :
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other staff.Must have the ability to supervise others.Must have the ability to communicate in writing and comprehend written material.As a term of condition and employment, you must be able to pass a physical and be medically cleared to wear a respirator.Must be able to work from heights.Preferred Qualifications :
