Overview
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assists with inventory maintenance, medication preparation, sterile IV compounding including chemotherapy, physical inspection, and recordkeeping. Supports operations across hospital departments by serving as an expert in drug preparation and inventory.
Responsibilities
Departmental Operations
- Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, maintains proper inventory of medications in medication areas and automated dispensing cabinets, including controlled substances.
- Places orders to vendors, checks orders for accuracy, and processes returns and invoices in a timely manner.
- Works with pharmacy staff to ensure sufficient and cost effective inventory levels are maintained.
- Fills EMT kits and code carts as required.
- Supports diversion prevention efforts by auditing patient charts and reporting discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
Clinical Operations
Conducts sterile compounding according to USP regulations, including hazardous drug compounding of chemotherapy.Prepares labels and sets up appropriate supplies and ingredients for pharmacist.Prepares unit-dose medications with correct labeling, accurate filling and documentation.Quality Assurance
Performs monthly physical inspection and documentation of all medication areas.Documents all records accurately and in a timely manner.Prepares and files charge sheets.Completes monthly billing to provider offices accurately, and in a timely manner.Adds formulary items and pricing information to pharmacy databases as needed.Qualifications
