Building Controls Engineer
The Building Systems Engineer investigates building systems and documents operational data. This role involves preparing recommendations for system improvements, maintenance programs, and evaluations. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Engineering Project Manager and technical oversight of engineers.
Responsibilities
- Apply and integrate knowledge of building systems including fire detection, emergency power distribution, fire protection, generators, air / water balancing, automatic transfer schemes, chilled / heating water, digital controls and monitoring, pneumatic tube systems, medical gas, instrumentation and metering, refrigeration, data treatment, power logic system, high voltage certified maintenance, PCL programming, high voltage switching, plumbing, steam distribution, and domestic water.
- Solve problems and manage information related to building systems.
- Plan, research, analyze, coordinate, implement, and present program requirements.
- Interact professionally with departmental staff, contractors, manufacturers, vendors, and consultants.
- Read and interpret complex construction documents, service manuals, and other technical documents.
- Create and follow complex instructions on blueprints, drawings, and oral instructions.
- Assist engineers and designers in evaluating contractors and equipment and in preparing specifications regarding engineering / maintenance systems.
- Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with supervisors and departmental staff.
- Understand and assimilate departmental policies, procedures, and systems.
Essential Skills
Basic, current knowledge of building systems and relevant local, state, federal, and regulatory stipulations and codes.Ability to use equipment related to building systems.High level of problem-solving skills.Proficiency in HVAC, troubleshooting, and systems engineering.Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; an AA degree is preferred.Specific training in engineering and / or maintenance discipline equivalent to 1 year of college, which may be obtained at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $47.00 / hr.
