The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating orthopedic conditions. The technologist will ensure high-quality radiographic images, maintain patient safety, and provide excellent patient care in a fast-paced orthopedic hospital environment.

Requirements :

• Provide exceptional patient care, ensuring patients are safe, comfortable, and informed throughout their imaging exam.
• Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and ensuring their comfort.
• Operate x-ray equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images of the musculoskeletal system, adjusting and maintaining equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly, troubleshoot equipment issues, and report any malfunctions to the proper personnel.
• Follow established guidelines to ensure optimal image quality and patient safety.
• Adhere to all radiation safety protocols and regulatory requirements to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
• Review and evaluate images for clarity, density, and contrast, adjusting as necessary.
• Ensure images are of high diagnostic quality for interpretation.
• Follow physician-specific protocols when performing x-ray exams and communicate updates as needed.
• Accurately document and record patient information and imaging details in EPIC.
• Submit images to PACS and maintain radiation logs for the State of Wisconsin.
• Prepare imaging copies for patients, outside providers, attorneys, etc.
• Communicate effectively with immediate coworkers as well as those throughout the clinic.
• Collaborate with radiologists and physicians to ensure accurate interpretation of images.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the radiology room and equipment following infection control protocols.
• Operate C-Arm equipment in both aseptic and sterile environments when assigned.
• Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical and Mental Demands

Communication Skills

Clear and concise interaction with patients, explaining procedures, and addressing concerns. Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, especially when dealing with those in pain or distress. Effective communication with healthcare professionals, including radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and nurses, to ensure coordinated patient care.

Mathematical Skills

Competence in performing dosages, exposure times, and equipment settings calculations. Ability to understand and apply numerical data and measurements related to imaging techniques and patient records.

Judgement and Decision Making

Assessing situations quickly and accurately to make informed decisions regarding patient care and imaging procedures. Upholding patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all interactions and decisions. Quick and effective troubleshooting of equipment issues and patient positioning challenges.

Software and Technology

Proficiency in using and adjusting x-ray machines and related imaging technology. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as EPIC for documenting patient information and imaging results. Competence in using specialized software such as PACS for reviewing and enhancing radiographic images.

Work Environment

The primary work environment is in the radiology department, equipped with advanced imaging technology. The technologist interacts with a variety of patients. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals for coordinated patient care is often. Must be willing to travel between offices and work flexible days and hours as needed. The job is physically demanding, involving lifting and positioning patients, standing for long periods, and operating heavy equipment. Strict adherence to radiation safety protocols is crucial to minimize exposure for patients, technologists, and other staff. Ability to manage stress and remain calm under pressure, especially during fast-paced peak hours.
