We are currently offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for Heavy Equipment Field Technician new hires. $2,500 is payable after 90-days of employment, and the remaining $2,500 is payable after 180 days of employment.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Field Service Technician. The Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing problems and performing standard mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and power-train repairs on heavy equipment at customer job sites / locations. These repairs may require working hours in addition to the normal work schedule for emergency calls or routine service as required. Flexibility and in-depth product knowledge / experience are necessary for this position. Seeking candidates with previous Caterpillar or related heavy equipment service experience, military diesel experience or completion of a diesel school program. High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of three years relevant heavy equipment field experience is required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are made in 2 equal installments at 90 days and 180 days of employment.

Requirements for the Field Service Technician position include :

• Must have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Must have excellent mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to interact professionally with customers and all of levels of personnel within the organization.
• Must be a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Must be a self-directed and well organized with the ability to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service.
• Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply new knowledge.
• Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals.
• Must be able to function well in a fast-paced environment.
• Must possess an excellent driving record and valid Commercial Drivers license, or the ability to obtain a CDL. Must be able to become DOT certified with DOT Medical Card.
• Must be able to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands.

Physical requirements must be met for the Field Service Technician job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness and humidity. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
