General Function
The Director of Marketing and Communications supports the work of the Attleboro Norton YMCA, a nonprofit charitable organization committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position is responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that elevates visibility, deepens engagement, and tells the story of the Y’s impact. The Director leads marketing, social media, brand management, content creation, media relations, and digital engagement across all YMCA locations and platforms.
Essential Duties Strategic Leadership
- Develops and implements the YMCA’s Annual Marketing & Communications Plan, aligning all efforts with enrollment, fundraising, and community impact goals.
- Serves as brand steward, ensuring consistency and compliance with Y-USA brand standards across all materials and messaging.
- Partners with the leadership team to position the Y as a visible, inclusive, and values-driven community organization.
Cross-Department Collaboration
Partners with the Senior Operations Leader (VP of Operations) to market programming across all departments, ensuring alignment with seasonal offerings, branch priorities, and member engagement strategies.Works closely with the Director of Philanthropy to plan, promote, and execute key events and campaigns, including donor appeals, recognition events, and community outreach initiatives.Collaborates with program, membership, and wellness directors to develop marketing materials and campaigns that support recruitment, retention, and engagement goals.Social Media & Digital Content
Oversees strategy, content creation, and daily posting for all YMCA social media channels, tailoring content to each audience and platform.Captures photos and video at programs and events to support real-time and long-term storytelling goals.Tracks analytics, adjusts campaigns based on performance data, and maintains a proactive posting schedule.Website & Email Communication
Manages daily website updates, SEO, analytics, and seasonal content refreshes.Develops and distributes email newsletters and announcements to members and stakeholders, supporting program promotion and urgent communication needs.Acts as the primary communication contact during snow emergencies, closures, and power outages, including evenings and weekends when needed to ensure timely updates to members and staff.Event Marketing & Visibility
Attends YMCA events across all branches to provide onsite communications support, capture stories, and ensure brand alignment.Designs signage, registration materials, event promotion, and follow-up communications.Supports event logistics and planning in partnership with internal teams, especially during fundraising or major member engagement events.Media & Public Relations
Builds and maintains relationships with local media and community partners.Prepares and distributes press releases, media kits, and news stories to expand the YMCA’s visibility.Supports the CEO and leadership team in public relations and crisis communication responses.Administrative & Supervisory Responsibilities
Develops and manages the annual marketing budget.Supervises interns, contractors, and creative vendors as needed.Reports monthly performance metrics and adjusts plans based on insights.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience)3–5 years of experience in nonprofit or mission-driven marketing and communicationsExcellent writing, visual, and digital storytelling skillsProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, social media platforms, and Google Ads / AnalyticsDemonstrated success managing multiple deadlines and collaborating across departmentsCPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hireWork Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, particularly during events oremergency communications.
Must travel between YMCA locations and outdoor events to provide onsite media coverage.May require lifting up to 25 lbs and use of basic photo / video equipment.YMCA Leadership Competencies – Director Level
