Coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs with the University of Georgia Athletic Association (UGAAA), under the medical direction of the head team physician and in conjunction with a variety of other healthcare providers as well as UGAAA staff (including but not limited to athletic training, physical therapy, athletic coaching, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, behavioral medicine, academics, and administration).

Internships with the UGA Athletic Association are a 12-month appointment starting July 1, 2026 ending on June 30, 2027.

Applicant review will begin in December and offers will be made in January.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Recognition, Evaluation and Management of Athletic Injuries :

1. Serve as athletic trainer for team(s) specified by director of sports medicine

a. Includes practice and competition coverage as well as travel responsibilities

2. Coordinate and supervise medical care for athletes as assigned by director of sports medicine

3. Initial assessment and treatment of athletic injuries

4. Physician referral as appropriate

a. Regular communication with primary care team physician

b. Communication with specialty team physicians as appropriate

5. Casting and splinting

6. Wound care, including removal of sutures and staples on MD order

7. Diagnostic testing appointments

8. Physician appointments

9. Use of therapeutic modalities and exercise

1. Maintain confidential medical records in Presagia system

2. Collect and apply Fusionetics data

3. Coordinate concussion testing protocol

4. Collaborate for athletic event medical coverage

Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries :

1. Development and implementation of structured rehabilitation programs under MD supervision

a. Coordinate physician re-checks

b. Participate in rehabilitation progress updates weekly

c. Maintain appropriate communication with supervising physicians

2. Development of rehabilitation protocols

a. Coordinate rehabilitation director of rehabilitation

3. Use of therapeutic modalities and exercise

4. Coordination of physician re-checks

5. Isokinetic testing

6. Aquatic rehabilitation

Prevention of Athletic Injuries :

1. Pre-participation physical examinations

a. Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating pre-participation physical examinations for student-athletes

b. Participate in post-physical physician meetings

c. Coordinate and schedule required follow-up testing from physicals

2. Preventative maintenance rehabilitation programs

3. Fitness assessments; physical conditioning of athletes

4. Fitting of protective equipment

5. Fabrication of tape, braces, and special pads

6. Casting / molding for custom foot orthotics 7. flexibility programs

8. Strength and conditioning programs

1. Provision of emergency care and first aid

Position Summary :

Supervise and coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs for the University of Georgia Athletic Association, working under the medical direction of team physicians and in conjunction with referring physicians, other ancillary medical professionals, and UGAAA staff : including but not limited to athletic training, athletic administration, athletic coaching, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, counseling / sports psychology, academics.

Relevant / Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position :

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education / experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies :

Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
