The Role

Analyzes researches designs and interprets metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs. Develops analyzes researches and designs casting molds and casting production techniques procedures and applications. Provides technical guidance during casting production operations including additions of different materials and modification of heat treatment plans to achieve specifications. Works with other engineering disciplines to test analyze and determine root cause of defects and failures found in metal products. Prepares technical documentation including reports specifications procedures and guides. Creates new or modifies current test methods fabrication methods techniques and procedures in order to improve metal products based on metallurgical theories. Provides technical guidance to other engineering disciplines for the selection of metal alloys for specific applications to optimize strength toughness durability and corrosion resistance

Must Have

2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Need an Engineer with a Material Science Degree. Experience with Metallography Mechanical Testing of Metal products (including Tensile Hardness Impact Testing Methods) Fatigue Testing and Material Processing (Casting Forging and 3D Printing).
