Assistant Director, Engineering & Technical Support – The University of Texas at Austin. Join Facilities Services to lead a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community. Engineering & Technical Support provides comprehensive engineering and technical support to the maintenance groups and other departments in service of the University's operations.
Responsibilities
- Directs a group of technical professionals in providing technical expertise related to facilities systems and equipment, including leading repair and replacement projects in an expeditious manner.
- Manages the technical review of capital improvement projects, renovations and replacement projects to arrive at cost effective solutions that are sustainable from both a maintenance and resource perspective. Represents Facilities Services in meetings on capital projects and renovations. Coordinates Facilities Services project needs with PDC as needed. Assists in the development of building design guidelines and standards.
- Oversees field auditing to verify systems, equipment and documentation are delivered by project personnel as agreed upon in the contract closeout documents.
- Ensures systems and equipment are properly entered into the maintenance work management system using the agreed upon hierarchy, as well as the proper account numbers, and field tags are applied as necessary to enhance proper long term asset identification.
- Participates with other branches of Facilities Operations and Maintenance in the creation of robust, safe, preventive maintenance and work procedures that allow systems and equipment to meet life expectancies.
- Prepares contract specifications, review bids and awards contracts for repair, replacement, maintenance and emergency response for many types of facilities systems and equipment.
- Assists in tracking costs and meeting Facilities Operations and Maintenance budgets by understanding business practices and following standard operating procedures related to entering data in UT Works, DEFINE and other support software.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or similar technical field.Five years increasingly responsible experience in maintaining, operating, and commissioning of large commercial, institutional, or industrial HVAC, mechanical or electrical systems.Experience with large complex facility HVAC, mechanical and electrical system measurements, analysis, design, and capacity modification, commissioning, and troubleshooting.Experience with simultaneously designing and managing several projects through to conclusion within restrictive time constraints.Knowledge of building codes including International Building and Mechanical Code, NFPA, NEC and National and International standards including State of Texas Energy Conservation Code, International Energy Conservation Code, ASHRAE and ANSI.Personal computer experience including developing and using complex spreadsheets and software for engineering analysis, project budgeting and cost tracking, and facilities management.Preferred Qualifications
More than five years' experience at a senior facilities maintenance management level.Licensed by Texas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.Experience with design, procurement, installation, programming, maintenance, commissioning and project management of wide area networked building automation systems, energy management systems.Experience with preventive maintenance systems, implementation and performance, coordinating project consultant design and construction documents, supervisory skills, team building construction / renovation, contract administration, and management.Demonstrated excellent communication skills.Salary
