Supervisory Authority
The Senior Manager directly oversees an Accounting Manager and two Senior Accountants.
Provides direct supervision and leadership within the Financial Reporting TeamOversees staff performance management, coaching and professional developmentAssists with team structure recommendations and recruitment efforts to ensure adequate coverageNature and Scope
Internal contacts include university executives, administrators and employees across all divisions. External contacts include independent auditors, vendors and representatives from federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
Principal Accountabilities
Lead preparation and review of annual, quarterly and monthly consolidated financial statements, stand‑alone entity reports and external surveysInterpret and implement accounting standards and ensure compliance with GAAP, regulations and university policiesEvaluate and implement new accounting standards, policies and proceduresOversee technical accounting research and prepare position papers for management decisionsMaintain awareness of evolving guidance and best practices for higher‑education and non‑profit organizationsSupervise and mentor staff through all phases of the financial reporting cycleDrive process improvements and automation initiatives to increase accuracy and timelinessCollaborate with General Accounting, Divisional Finance Leads and other stakeholders to ensure consistent treatment university‑wideCore Competencies
In‑depth knowledge of GAAP for not‑for‑profit and higher‑education institutionsStrong analytical, research and problem‑solving skills with clarity of communicationExcellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to precisionLeadership experience in managing, developing and motivating professional staffAbility to collaborate across departments, balancing strategic priorities and operational demandsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environmentCommitment to integrity, professional excellence and continuous improvementMinimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred)Certified Public Accountant (CPA)7+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacityExperience in public accounting (Big 4 or similar) or higher education / non‑profit sector preferredProven expertise in technical accounting research, policy implementation and financial process improvementStrong analytical, organizational and communication skills with success in a collaborative, matrixed environmentCompliance Salary Range Disclosure
