Post craniectomy experience

Description :

The unit has 18 beds.

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2.

Common diagnoses include ventriculostomy, strokes with or without TPA, and craniotomies.

RNs are required to titrate drips.

The unit follows physician orders for titration, with various drips involved.

A charge nurse is present on each shift.

If staffing allows, the charge nurse will not take an assignment.

A house supervisor is available 24 / 7.

Patient care techs are present on the unit with a ratio of 9 : 1.

RNs are required to troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment.

Tele monitor techs are available, and RNs are required to read their own strips.

The tele monitors used are Phillips brand.

Nurses are scheduled for 3-12 hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM.

Weekend requirements are every other weekend.

Holiday requirements involve rotating every other holiday.

Travelers will float first if necessary.

Nurses may float to any unit in the hospital within the designated care levels.

Unit-specific orientation consists of 20 hours.
