The Department of Computer Science in the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University invites applications for full-time, 9-month, tenured Full Professor or Associate Professor positions to begin on September 1st, 2026

About the College

The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE, https : / / www.depts.ttu.edu / coe / ) serves approximately 5125 undergraduate and 1053 graduate students, supported by 204 faculty and instructors. The college had 856 BS, 580 MS and 84 PhD graduates in the 2024-25 fiscal year. All incoming first year students are enrolled in a common foundational curriculum for all undergraduate programs. Foundational students declare a program of choice and can move into upper division after completing the foundational classes with a TTU GPA of 2.5 or higher. The WCOE consists of the Departments of Chemical Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Petroleum Engineering. All BS programs and the Environmental Engineering Master's program are ABET accredited. All departments have Master's and PhD programs. In 2024, the college had approximately $23 million in federal research expenditures, contributing to a total research expenditure of $49 million in the college.

About the Department / School / Area

The Department of Computer Science has 100 PhD students, 218 Master students, and 885 undergraduate students including 474 major students and 411 foundational students as of Fall 2025. The Department of Computer Science offers four degree programs, including Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Software & Security Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science. Major / Essential Functions

Faculty Qualifications

• Have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or closely related fields;
• Be able to teach undergraduate and graduate core and elective courses in Computer Science;
• Have a track record of research excellence in areas of robotics, or artificial intelligence, or quantum computing as demonstrated by publications in top venues in Computer Science and potential for obtaining competitive, external research funding;
• Be able to take service duties for the department, college, and university as needed. Service duties may include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities.

This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and / or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with a research focus on one or more areas including human-robot interaction, robot vision and navigation, natural language processing, machine learning, computer vision, quantum algorithms, or quantum systems.
