SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Radiology Department. Under direct supervision of department Chairman, Nuclear Medicine Physician Specialist, and department Director engage in a variety of technical procedures utilizing radionuclides for diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients. Evaluates Nuclear Medicine Services maintaining standards of quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Customer Service : Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, visitors, staff, physicians, volunteers and other internal / external customers. Ensures that all communications and job activities result in a positive customer experience.
  • Works in collaboration with radiologists, cardiologists, attending physicians, nursing services and nuclear medicine physician specialist and patients so that examinations are done efficiently and appropriately with optimal quality diagnostic images.
  • Conducts Quality Assurance for Nuclear Medicine Section, so that performance is accurate and standardized. Regularly reviews results of calibration and equipment, records dose calibration and results of essays of radionuclide activities.
  • In collaboration with hospital Radiation Safety Officer, is responsible for all Federal, State and local radiation safety regulations within the department.
  • Participates in the formal in-service training programs of the Nuclear Medicine Department and will instruct in the demonstration of specific techniques and equipment. Will keep abreast of new procedures, equipment and methods.
  • Schedule and prepare patients according to tests ordered.
  • Maintains state of equipment, including service calls, calibrations, and is responsible for close communication with Director, informing him or her regarding problems in the Nuclear Medicine Section as soon as possible.
  • When regular duties are not being performed in Nuclear Medicine, will work in other areas of Radiology department as needed provided that license requirements are met.
  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner completing work assignments and maintaining quality standards.
  • Identifies emergency situations and determines the course of action to resolve the emergency or problem circumstance.
  • Provides patient education including the procedure details, contrast administration and other related information.
  • Performs all Nuclear Medicine procedures with appropriate accessory equipment including immobilization devices and radiation shields.
  • Evaluates patient's medical status prior to performing Nuclear Medicine procedures including allergies, laboratory results and pregnancy determination.
  • Observes general safety precautions at all times.
  • Participates in formal in-service training programs of the Radiology department, keeping abreast of new procedures, equipment, and methodologies.
  • Maintains adequate records, i.e. identity of patient, date and examination, requesting physician, and or any pertinent information in appropriate locations.
  • Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards.
  • Provides assistance to others as needed.
  • Cooperates with coworkers and management to maintain a harmonious environment and assists in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner.
  • Adjusts work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner including patient transport.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
  • Follows established emergency, infection control and / or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and or policies.
  • Attends mandatory in-service related to safety and / or infection control.
  • Supports and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  • Provides courteous service to internal / external customers in all activities.
  • Offers assistance to all internal / external customers as appropriate and / or refers customer to appropriate individual or department.
  • Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objective, non-judgmental view points and teamwork.
  • Demonstrates required knowledge and skills to effectively consider individual`s diagnosis, diverse culture, religious beliefs and age.
  • Obtains pertinent information from different age groups of patients and appropriately interprets information for assessment.
  • Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures according to age appropriate guidelines.
  • Evaluates environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on age and development status.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital's compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Required :

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have graduated from an accredited program
  • Must be A.R.R.T. or NMTCB registered and maintain I.E.M.A. Licensure.
  • Primary Source Verification : ARRT and IEMA.

  • Current BLS Certification
  • Preferred :

  • 2 years of experience preferred

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
