SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS

Join Caltrans as a Senior Transportation Engineer to manage complex transportation projects from inception to close?out. This role is a project manager responsible for delivering all assigned projects on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with state transportation improvement program objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project manager responsible for managing and facilitating development and engineering administration of projects from inception through construction completion and close?out.
  • Ensure successful delivery of all assigned projects in accordance with the approved scope, on schedule, and within the programmed capital and support budgets.
  • Provide report and support to Deputy District Director for projects in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), State Highway Operational and Protection Program (SHOPP), storm damage, seismic projects, minors, Middle?Mile Broadband Network projects, locally funded, and other Capital Outlay funded projects.
  • Coordinate with local partners regarding projects and represent District?10 Program Project Management demonstrating transparency and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Minimum qualifications include at least a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering or related field and five (5) years of progressive project management experience in transportation or related discipline with successful project delivery.
  • Eligibility for hire may be determined by score on the Senior Transportation Engineer Caltrans exam. Applicants who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and / or who will be new to state civil?service employment must be on the state examination list.

    • Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid drivers license is required when operating a state?owned or leased vehicle.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
