Building Trades Inspector I

Rate of Pay : $45,281.60 - $51,646.40

This is a position within the Building Inspection division of the Public Works Department. The employee is responsible for conducting general building code inspections and may provide specialized inspections in one of the following areas : Electrical, HVAC or Plumbing. The assigned area of specialization will require more in-depth inspections in the assigned area, as well as additions and repairs to existing buildings within the City of Marietta to ensure compliance with state and local building codes and ordinances.

• Performs both field and office work in the inspection of new and remodel construction for residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with state and local laws, codes and ordinances. Schedules inspections from contractors and the public and responds to inquiries concerning scheduled inspections.
• Performs detailed inspections in the assigned area of specialty (electrical, HVAC, or plumbing) to include plan and specification review, and any on site tests needed to determine code compliance.
• Responds to concerns or complaints from contractors and citizens regarding building or related code violations, inspections or reports of non-permitted building construction.
• Research and reviewexisting codes and ordinances and stays informed of new codes and ordinances.
• Notifies and advises contractors when code violations are found.
• Maintains records of inspections conducted and ensures that city records of inspections conducted are updated as needed.
• Performs other related inspection and administrative duties as required or assigned from Supervisor.
