Director - Space Ground Systems
The Director - Space Ground Systems will lead our most technically advanced space ground portfolio. As such we are seeking a candidate that has demonstrated at least 10 years of development program leadership across a variety of customers and technologies. The ideal candidate will have previous experience delivering space ground systems to both the Department of War (DoW) and the Intelligence Community (IC). The Space Ground Systems portfolio includes turnkey satellite ground station development, sustainment and operation, RF and Optical Ground Entry Points, and satellite ground system technologies. This portfolio includes technologically-complex, completion-based programs. Potential candidates need to have previous experience executing completion-based programs driven to satisfy both the customer requirements and ultimate mission needs. Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 18 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 16 years of demonstrated leadership. Must currently hold a TS / SCI security clearance or have held one in the past 24 months. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Director, Space Ground Systems business area. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The position will be responsible for all aspects of business performance and strategy for space ground systems to include profit / loss and customer relationship management.
Representative duties and tasks :
- Directs a business segment consisting of multiple disciplines, programs, products, and / or customers to meet current and long-term business objectives
- Responsible for customer satisfaction, leadership, overall performance, schedule, and profit and loss of large programs, or a portfolio of programs and / or products throughout the entire program life cycle
- Ensures creation of well-constructed, comprehensive business plans
- Establishes strategic plans and objectives in coordination with others
- Evaluates and analyzes the functional area plans (such as IRAD) and the impacts of these plans on the business
- Reviews organizational capabilities, and development / execution of strategies, to improve the competitiveness of the organization through actions such as professional growth & development, strategic hiring, strategic partnering, and acquisitions
- Balances programs, risks and opportunities with executable strategies to meet technical requirements and budgets
- Conducts reviews to drill down into issues on products / programs, identify issues, develop corrective actions, and communicate issues, impacts and corrective actions to program teams
- Develops personnel to ensure efficient operation
- Conducts business and technical briefings for senior and top management and for external representatives
- Develops and executes proposal plans and strategies
- Effectively engages in complex negotiations involving critical matters
- Develops customer relationships and develops new business within the market / program
- Coordinates the patent and data rights for the products / programs / proposals / subcontracts
