SUMMARY

Coordinates assistance to residents in a manner that meets or exceeds community expectations. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to resident needs and provide assistance with activities of daily living.

Essential Skills And Responsibilities

  • Complies with facility policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and provides assistance (or reminders) with activities of daily living (ADLs). Assists residents with mobility and transfers.
  • Documents care provided, noting unusual or significant changes in physical, mental or behavioral conditions, and reports changes to supervisor immediately.
  • Assists residents with medication administration, including self-administration, and documents administrations on the MOR as directed by the Nurse Manager. Reports any medication errors or refusals promptly to the Nurse Manager.
  • Encourages residents to participate in residence activities and social programs. Promotes independence and compliance with all residents' rights and confidentiality.
  • Responds quickly to emergency calls and requests received via pager or walkie-talkie.
  • Provides assistance to residents to the activity room, dining room, and transportation, completing meal attendance checklists and delivering meal trays as needed.
  • Provides effective communication to the caregiver at the adjacent shift to encourage a continuum of care.
  • Assists the Activities Manager with scheduled activities.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned or requested.

Required Skills And Abilities

Must be punctual, maintain satisfactory attendance, and provide proper notice of tardiness or absences. Attends meetings as required. Follows facility dress code and maintains good personal hygiene and grooming. Is mature and emotionally stable, using a calm, kind tone with residents, staff and family members. Prioritizes and organizes work efficiently to accomplish workload within time allotted. Adapts and remains flexible to changing situations. Demonstrates compassion toward the elderly and works with tact and ethical awareness, ensuring resident confidentiality. Seeks opportunities to exceed resident expectations and enhance resident satisfaction. Works as a team member, willing to help others, assists with maintaining a clean workplace, and maintains a positive attitude. Responds appropriately to safety hazards, fire drills and emergency situations, follows safety rules and regulations, and reports injuries or accidents to the administrator immediately per facility procedures. Supports continuous improvement and seeks ways to reduce costs and create efficiencies on a daily basis.

Qualifications

Education And Experience

High school education or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maintains current CPR and First Aid training. Level 1 and Level 2 Alzheimer certified; training in Abuse, ADL, adverse and major incident reporting, behavior and needs of residents, DNRO, elopement, facility emergency procedures, HIV / AIDS infection control, universal precautions, facility sanitation procedures, and resident rights training.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to interpret medical directions and medication measurements. Ability to document all assignments thoroughly, including medication administration.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to multiply and divide by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Ability to use liquid measurements. Ability to use weight measurements.

Reasoning Ability

Demonstrates medical assessment skills. Makes decisions to address simple variations to standards. Makes appropriate decisions for assistance when needed.

Certificates, Licenses, And Registrations

Assistance with self-administration of medications.

Physical Demands

The employee regularly stands, walks, handles items, reaches with hands and arms, climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, talks, hears, and smells. May sit occasionally. Must regularly lift or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 200 pounds or more. Vision requirements : close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
