Position : Paraprofessional, Classroom / Special Education / Library / Personal Assistant

Reports To : ClassroomTeacher, and then Building Principal and Superintendent(s)

Type Position : Non- Exempt

Qualifications :

  • Education level –Individuals with one of the following qualifications are eligible to be an instructional paraprofessional :
  • 60 college credit hours,
  • Associate's degree or higher,
  • Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013),
  • Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (after September 23, 2013), or
  • Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
  • Other requirements – Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a discrete and confidential manner.

JOB GOAL :

Assist teachers (regular education and special education) in educating students. (Note : Every classroom paraprofessional in the district has specific duties to perform. This is determined by the age of the students worked with and / or the specific needs of the students.)

Term Of Employment :

Nine-month employee. Compensation to be established by the Board of Education.

Compensation :

As approved by the Marshall Public Schools Board of Education

Paid Time Off (PTO) :

In accordance with the district-adopted paid leave policy and schedule

Evaluation :

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Maintain - Courteous and professional relationships with pupils, parents / guardians, teachers and other employees of the district and all patrons of the district.
  • Organization - Keeps track of assignments, due dates and completion of assignments.
  • Organization – Tasks are organized, prioritized, and planned out. Materials, equipment, and work area are clean, organized, and ready.
  • Performance - Clerical duties as directed.
  • Professionalism – Represents district and board values in daily work and interactions. Follows through appropriately and keeps his or her word. Demonstrates consideration and respect for others.
  • Professionally - Represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, staff and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Punctuality – Arrives for work and work appointments on time and prepared.
  • Quality of Work – Work is accurate, thorough, neat, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Quantity of Work – Effectively produces work in accordance with job description and the district, department, and building needs.
  • Relationships and Communication – Develops and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Uses positive and appropriate communication.
  • Safety – Follows safety guidelines. Maintains and promotes a safe work environment.
  • Serves - As a resource person, if and when requested, to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
  • Submit - All required reports or paperwork at the time requested.
  • Supervises - Students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Supervision - Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Supports - The teacher's direct instruction, which was introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist teacher with classroom instruction.
  • Follows direction from the teacher, and respects their authority in the classroom and in directing their role
  • Reads tests and materials to students and makes other accommodations from the IEP.
  • At times participates in Social Studies and Science Class-Within-A-Class educational opportunities. (Takes notes during class, monitors behavior of students, works with individual students, etc.)
  • Has a good working relationship with regular staff members, special staff members, and students.
  • Demonstrates understanding of students' difficulties.
  • Maintains classroom bulletin boards as directed by the teacher.
  • Keeps records , as directed by the teacher.
  • Walks students to and from the bus or other locations in the building (as needed).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Skills and Abilities

    Must be willing to learn and comply with district initiatives that involve technical and program skills. Such as but not limited to, financial software, Word Processing, Excel, Google Suite, PowerSchool, AESOP, as well as proficiency with computer based communication expectations.

    Attendance :

    Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Must follow district policy on employee absences.

    Computation :

    Ability to define problems, and prioritize job tasks.

    Hearing :

    Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment .

    Language :

    An individual who holds this position must have the ability to :

  • Communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.
  • Read, analyze and interpret administrative correspondence and directives as well as Board policy and handbooks.
  • Keep student information confidential according to FERPA when required by law, except for from the building administration.
  • Physical Demands :

    An individual who holds this position requires some lifting of files and storage containers. Must be able to attend meetings in designated areas. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal.

    Technology :

    Basic computer skills, ability to learn new programs quickly, and manage the following : Basic Computer Word Processing, and Google Suites.

    The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees.

    The individual who holds this position is occasionally, as designated in their contract, required to work irregular or extended hours for specific school events, such as school programs or conferences.
