Tank Cleaner 3

Continental Maritime of San Diego is currently seeking a Tank Cleaner 3 to help support our operations. The Tank Cleaner 3 is responsible for cleaning the interior of storage tanks (fuel tanks), bilges, piping systems using high pressure hoses, acids, and hand tools; drain tanks to flush residue such as oil, fuel; sludge through tank openings; removes residue from the bottom of the tank using a pump.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Working knowledge of fuel tanks, machinery, ship bilges, and piping systems; tank cleaning techniques; ship configuration; hand tool operation; basic mechanical and plumbing skills.
  • Must maintaining Shipyard Competent Person (SYCP) certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • The ability to obtain a DBIDS credential is required.

Physical Requirements :

  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment.
  • May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding / burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequently moves throughout the shipyard.
  • Works at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to ascend / descend stairs / ladders / ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.
