Job description

Job Title

Performs a variety of complex technical administrative functions related to assessment services, including : interpreting and maintaining maps / plats; reviewing, recording, and updating changes in property ownership, valuation of commercial personal property, and accepting / applying Senior and Veteran exemption applications. Assisting the public when they have questions pertaining to ownership and communicating with professional letters and emails.

Minimum Qualifications Required :

Education and Experience :

  • Highschool diploma or GED; and,
  • Two to three years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications :

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Essential Job Functions :

  • Maintains assessment maps / plats, including : receiving, recording, and reviewing legal descriptions in deeds and other legal documents to assure accurate assessment; calculating acreage and square footage of parcels from legal descriptions and plat maps; creating and maintaining inventory of digital ownership map files and subdivision maps; assigning parcel numbers; changing property owners' names and addresses; contacting owners regarding problems / questions; and answering technical questions related to the same.
  • Maintains assessment information related to property ownership, including : adding new accounts; preparing and sending declarations; processing and calculating valuations; preparing accounts for Notice of Valuation mailings; posting values to schedules; entering information into computer database; transferring ownership; updating and maintaining appraisal cards and books; and researching records to determine ownership.
  • Interpretation and application of the Department of Taxations ARL's as it relates to real property and personal property valuation.
  • Completes tax roll abatements and corrections.
  • Composes correspondence in accordance with office policies; answers various inquiries; explains policies and procedures; arranges appointments; processes orders and updates manuals; and processes routine and non-routine matters independently.
  • Formats and types letters, memos, notices, reports, or other correspondence on a computer.
  • Answers phone, takes messages, screens calls, determines nature and priority of call, provides information to callers and visitors, and directs calls, visitors, and / or messages to appropriate person.
  • Prepares complex, routine and non-routine reports utilizing a variety of software; receives, sorts, and summarizes material for the preparation of reports; prepares work reports; develops charts and graphs, and prints various reports.
  • All tasks involving the Senior / Veteran Exemption, including but not limited to printing applications from the State website, handing out and receiving applications. Answering questions about the exemption. Doing the annual State required report as well as assisting the Treasurer's office with balancing.
  • Organizes and maintains various filing systems.
  • Performs specialized research and statistical work on assigned subjects for staff and management.
  • Enters information into a computer terminal; uses the computer system to retrieve a variety of daily, monthly, and yearly reports.
  • Reports administrative and / or operational problems to supervisor.

  • External governmental bodies and agencies related to area of assignment.
  • All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Standards business math, including percentages and decimals.
