SUPERVISOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (LAB) DELAND, FL

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The EHS Supervisor maintains responsibility for overseeing the organizations Labs Safety program including ensuring the labs adherence to federal, state and institutional regulations. The role provides problem solving, analysis, training, coaching and leadership related to environmental health and safety improvements. The EHS Supervisor develops and drives initiatives that reduce or eliminate risk, continually improves EHS performance and reduces incidents. This position will lead the design, implementation and achievement of annual safety and environmental targets and metrics to drive EHS culture, compliance, and results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Program Management
- Champion and lead projects designed to effectively drive improvements towards a zero incident safety culture
- Create and maintain all EHS programs, protocols and Lead investigations on safety and environmental non-compliance incidents and provide appropriate level of urgency to response to operational issues
- Ensure completion of routine preventative maintenance on safety systems
- Create and maintain comprehensive risk matrix and ensure programs are aligned
- Interact and partner with leadership team to execute programs and projects
- Provide safety focused guidance and lead resolution actions during crises
- Develop and implement accident prevention strategies
- Supports emergency preparedness planning including fire drills
Regulatory Compliance
Acts as primary point of contact for safety-related standards for both internal and external inspectionsEnsure compliance with county, state and local regulations, including processing / filing regulatory permits, licensing, and reporting as necessaryCoordinate / participate in environmental agency inspectionsOversight of all aspects of hazardous waste management programReview, interpret and advise operators on actions to align and maintain complianceConducts routine inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and ensures compliance with OSA, EPA, CAP and other relevant standards.Reporting & Metrics
Maintains accurate records of safety training, inspections, non-conformances and chemical inventoryComplete monthly metricsEnsure review of near misses, incidents, corrective actionsLeads safety related reporting at Medical Director meetingParticipate in continuous improvement activities and creates safety related improvement opportunity action plans.Determine leading / lagging indicators and track performanceSafety Culture & Training
Promote a culture of safe behaviors and mindsetResponsible for EHS participation in events : Lab Week, National Safety Month, Fire Prevention Month, etc.Responsible for developing, maintaining and providing new teammates annual and ongoing safety trainingResponsible for monitoring regulatory environment to identify new and changing requirements.Leads in implementation of safety regulatory changes.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Four or more years experience with demonstrated knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) requiredBachelors degree in a safety or environmental related field requiredExperience working in a laboratory setting and with chemical inventories preferredOSHA 30 preferredCertified Safety Professional requiredCPR / AED / First Aid / BBP Certification preferredMust-haves
1. Certified Safety Professional certification
2. 4 or more years of demonstrated knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA)
3. Bachelors degree in a safety or environmental related field required
